Trimble Introduces a UHF RFID reader for the Nomad

The UHF RFID Reader is designed for a variety of RFID scenarios, including asset management and inventory management. The Reader is tested and certified to IP67 and MIL-STD-810F standards, making it as durable and resistant to harsh environments as the Nomad computer.

The UHF RFID Reader has a range of approximately one (1) meter, although this specification is significantly dependent on the particular RFID tags being read, and the substrate the tags are attached to. Via the API, the Reader also includes the ability to write, or update, the data stored on RFID tags.

The North America version of the UHF RFID Reader is certified for use in the USA, Canada and most of South America. A Sample Tag Pack is available separately, and contains an assortment of nine RFID tags for use in rugged environments. The tags, from four manufacturers, have a range of performance characteristics and are compatible with various substrate material types and shapes.

Compatibility with the Nomad handheld
The UHF RFID Reader is compatible with all Nomad 900 and Nomad 800 models running Windows Mobile 6.1 and 6.0. The UHF RFID Reader is compatible with RFID tags designed to the EPCglobal Gen2 standard. The Reader is compatible with all Nomad feature combinations, having no adverse impact on GPS reception, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity, and so on. The impact on battery life is comparable to using the barcode laser scanner (on Nomad computers so equipped), and will vary by individual usage patterns.

NASA’s Johnson Space Center announced that it intends to purchase RFID readers and associated peripherals from ACC Systems Inc. for a space flight inventory system on the International Space Station.

NASA has a requirement for forty-one RFID readers and other associated peripherals— for example extra batteries, handle battery, USB cable and power controller.

The RFID readers and peripherals provided by ACC Systems are qualified to support program requirements – shielded such that they passed radiation testing and can accept a total dose of radiation exposure of 600 RAD (with 200 MeV protons.

They are also certified for an on-orbit lifetime of 10 years for International Space Station utilization.

NASA employs RFID on International Space Station

NASA’s Johnson Space Center announced that it has purchased RFID UHF handheld readers and associated peripherals from ACC Systems Inc. for a space flight inventory system on the International Space Station. The ACC570 UHF handheld readers were selected after extensive comparative testing of the major brands of UHF handheld readers on the market today. Items being tagged and tracked include such things as the astronauts and crew personal items (clothing, hygiene etc.), office supplies, food packages and medical supplies. Some of these are tagged at the bulk bag level, while others are tagged at the item level.

The UHF handheld readers and peripherals provided by ACC Systems are qualified to support program requirements; shielded such that they passed radiation testing and can accept a total dose of radiation exposure of 600 RAD (with 200 MeV protons) and zero-gravity (Zero-G) testing. They are also certified for an on-orbit lifetime of 10 years for International Space Station utilization as Next Generation RFID and Barcode Readers.
According to sources at NASA, ACC Systems, Inc. is the only company capable of meeting the NASA requirements, being able to produce the UHF handheld readers and other peripherals being procured for this project.

Triple Crown Tri-fecta only from ACC Systems Inc.

Summer 2010 – NASCAR asked and we responded to their need for a handheld RFID reader with three different frequency capability. The ACC573 is the first handheld RFID reader that can read and write to tags in three (3) different frequencies on command. In addition, the UHF RFID module spans the entire range from 864MHz to 954MHz for operation in virtually every country in the world. The HF 13.56MHz module can read the common non-proprietary tags (ISO15693, Mifare, etc) as well as the HID iClass products.

LF 125-134.2KHz common tags and HID Prox cards are no problem for the ACC573 Tri-fecta. In addition to RFID, a 1D laser or 2D imager is a standard feature. For wireless options, choose from 802.11 b/g, Bluetooth or GSM/GPRS. A camera with flash, GPS and a gun handle with an extra powerful 4400mAh battery are added features. Whether you need all three frequencies or only one, with the ACC573 you can be assured that you have the top of the line highest quality device to rely on for your RFID data transactions and at a very attractive price.

ACC970 / AT970 Mobile Payment Terminal

Summer 2010  A.C.C. Systems Inc. (Glen Head, N.Y.) has introduced the ACC970 hand held reader adding to their already broad line of products. The new handheld model ACC970/AT970 has all of the usual features based on Microsoft Windows CE 5.0 /6.0 and comes with 128mb RAM and 256mb ROM. The ACC970 is capable of accurate HF RFID reading, a 1D scanner or 2D imager, WiFi, Bluetooth, finger print reader, 3.5” QVGA backlit color touch screen display, printer and a 1 year warranty. Optional add-ons include a 1.3 meg pixel camera with LED flash, WWAN communication via CDMA, GSM/GRPS and HSDPA, SIRF 3 GPS and a choice of magnetic card, smart crad or RF card reader. A standard or vehicle cradle is available. The ACC970 weighs about 1 pound. “This unit will provide our customers with the most complete solution on the market today.”
